Geriatric Neuropsychological Testing
Some older adults or their families experience problems with memory, attention and concentration, or personality. A number of factors can contribute. Health issues such as heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, or Parkinson’s disease, as well as mood problems like depression can contribute to a decrease in cognitive skills.
Cognitive changes often lead to difficulties with self-care or managing daily affairs. A decline in abilities can raise questions about safety, their living situation, driving, and financial or medical decisions.
Geriatric neuropsychological testing provides answers to these questions. Through a series of paper and pencil tests and interview the Geropsychologist can objectively measure cognitive skills and compare the results to healthy older adults.
Professional interpretation of this information helps to explain what is causing the problem and how to treat it.
